New Celestia® Filler Cloth Offers Better Process
Durham, NC, January 9, 2009 – Freudenberg North America has unveiled an updated version of its mattress filler cloth product, which the company says will offer certain construction advantages for efficiency minded manufacturers.
The new cloth, which replaces FC 617, is designated as FC 618, and is a “stitch bond” nonwoven used under the bed and on top of the foundation to assure a “clean” finish to the product.
The new FC 618 has been certified within the Lilly Management Group prototyping system, which has been selected by the many in the mattress industry to authenticate the performance of mattress flame retardant materials. While the product is similar to its predecessor, it is expected to offer manufacturers easier, more cost effective processing.
In making the announcement, Freudenberg North America’s manager of bedding products Jim Frasch said that the new cloth is a reflection of Freudenberg’s continuing process of product improvement and customer support. “Our product line continues to evolve”, said Frasch. “This is part of what we normally do, and every time we do it process and cost improve,” Frasch said. “In this specific case, we’ve reduced elongation properties significantly and made the product stiffer and easier to process”.
The new filler cloth is part of the Celestia line of FR materials, manufactured by Freudenberg North America to meet the flame retardant requirements of mattress manufacturers since 2005. The new design is one of eight major FR product groups made for the entire range of mattress applications including tight top, pillow top, euro top and foam. Celestia offers multiple strategies for FR material integration allowing manufacturers to pick the right combination of materials for their specific design.
The flexibility of the Celestia FR line is based on the Integrated System Solution, a process developed by Freudenberg to allow designers to integrate their preferred FR product selection into their mattress construction strategy to get exactly the product they want without having to compromise. Because they are fully compatible with all mattress quilting and manufacturing processes, Celestia FR materials offer manufacturers broad based options, making it possible for them to meet all government flammability regulations without significantly increasing manufacturing cost.
The Celestia line of FR materials is manufactured by Freudenberg North America, a division of Freudenberg & Company, based in Weinheim, Germany, and a global leader in the field of technical textiles. In addition to mattress structural components, major markets include hygiene/medical, air and liquid filtration, apparel, home furnishing, tuft and automotive interiors. Freudenberg has operations in 34 countries with annual revenues in the $7 billion range.
